We took advantage of riding on “Gertie,” Gabriola Island’s community transportation system that is only a few years old. We were picked up at Silva Bay, which is on the southeast part of Gabriola. The trip first took us along the southern side (South Road) and on the way back, along the northern side (North Road
We went to Gabriola Elementary School, to show
support for teachers on the picket line.

We visited, “The Commons.” The Commons, “Is a grassroots community organization,
managed by volunteers, and dedicated to enhancing the social fabric of the
community.” (Excerpt from www.gabriolacommons.ca). They had an amazingly well trimmed hedge in
the front yard, community gardens and community programs.

We had a very tasty seafood
chowder for lunch.
