Bright eyed-bushy tailed. We were awake at 5:45 am so we
started making our way out. We decided
to go the distance to Gibsons, (over 42 nautical miles,) through Active
Pass. If we headed north to Silva Bay, we
would have had the current against us and we would have made 2-3 knots if we
were lucky.
Look carefully at the picture. What bird can you see?
This was the beginning of entering Active Pass. We hugged
along the south shore for two reasons:
1) to give room for BC ferries which actively uses this passage 2) to take advantage of the back eddies as we
were going against 2 knots of current.
Getting past around this marker and the point took longer with speeds of
1.8 to 2.3 knots.
Crossing the Strait of Georgia can be pretty snotty but
today, it was dead calm and HOT! Mae and
Marty took watches, as it was a long day in the heat. It’s important to take breaks and get out of
the sun. During Mae’s watch, she set up
a tarp for the pets and herself. Silly
Mae as it did look silly!
