On July 22, we had a leisurely morning so Mae baked a “breakfast pizza” with sautéed vegetables, bacon and cheese. It is a tough life but someone (us) has to live it.
We started engine at 10:10 a.m. and set sail by 10:20 a.m. We were heading over to the B.C. mainland. Crossing over the Strait of Georgia was challenging as the current, winds and tides were all not quite working together. We all had to be alert at the wheel.

The swells were at least 2 metres and getting close to 3 metres on top of a good chop. Edward did a great job sailing and handling the boat in the mixed conditions. There were some good gusts of wind that really heeled the boat. We managed well.
Wild Abandon can handle anything! We went to Halfmoon Bay. In the 2009 Waggoner Guide, they stated that there was 170 feet of public dock space and possible places to anchor but this was not the case. At the same time as trying to anchor, the wind switched from northwester, (which was why we chose this bay) to southeaster (not so good for this bay). We could not anchor so we ended up rafting to a large boat. As it turned out, the person that owned the boat is a retired teacher and knew a few colleagues of Marty. We went over for an evening drink after we checked out the small community of “Halfmoon Bay.”
