July 21 Lasqueti to Hornby Island

On July 21, we started engine at 8:25 a.m. and we were under sail by 8:45 a.m. We go much faster under sail than by engine. The sailing was tough as demonstrated by Edward's skillful seamanship..."the one finger steering."

We slowly sailed to Tribune Bay, under gentle winds, so this was an opportunity to take photos of our boat under sail. If you have ever sailed with us, you will often hear Marty say, "This boat can steer on it's own." Here is the proof!

But really, our boat looked beautiful out in the BIG BLUE OCEAN, under bright sunshine with deep blue skies and only spots of clouds. T'is tough!

We did not turn on the engine until 13:25. We anchored in Tribune Bay on Hornby Island. This bay has one of the best sandy beach in all the Gulf Islands. There were literally hundreds and hundreds of people on the huge beach, which was also patrolled by the RCMP. It was quite a hot day again, so Marty and Mae set off on the dinghy while Edward rested on board. We walked on the nice warm sandy beaches. We had almost forgot what it was like to feel real sand between our toes.

Marty went for a quick swim. This evening we had a tasty marinated pork loin with grilled zucchini and fried rice.
