Welcome Harbour May 21-24, 2010
On May 21st to May 24th, Mae, Marty and Jennifer (& Rose too) went to our traditional May Long Weekend Family trip to Welcome Harbour on the north end of Porcher Island. On our way, the seas were at a state of confusion. The Pearson Family followed behind us. This was their first real adventure out on the water. It was their longest water voyage. Allan handled the boat very well with two young kids ages two and four, Christie five month pregnant and his grandma on board. We arrive in the harbour before 10:00 p.m. We both safely dropped anchor well. On May 22nd, we went Oval Bay where we spent a beautiful afternoon in the sun. The Pearson had a great time collecting rocks (at least grandma did), walking, exploring, roasting hotdogs and sleeping. The Bowles family recollect the much warmer weather compared to last year when we were hit with gale force winds in the harbour. On May 23rd, we went fishing and caught a lot of black bass. Allan learned to fillet them all and the Pearsons came over for a lovely dinner on board Wild Abandon. On the evening of May 23rd, the marine weather predicted gale force winds into the harbour. Wild Abandon had to reset anchor to insure a strong hold. We had to have 2 hour anchor watch. Jennifer went on the first watch, then Mae and finally Marty finished off the watch. The gale force winds slowed down around 3:30 a.m.
