March 12, 2010 Sailing

On March 12, there was a small window of opportunity to sail in between major weather systems. Earlier this week, we had gale to storm force winds along with snow, sleet and rain. Blue and calm skies greeted us in the morning and we took the opportunity to GO OUT! We sailed and fished.

It was a tough day of sailing. Just check out the clips below.

Sailing in Prince Rupert in 2008

Here is a video clip of our July 1st sailing in 2008 when Edward came to visit us. We also had an exchange student from Holland, named Dagmar, on board. We were really moving fast. It was a wonderful sail.

Sailing 2009

2009 was an incredible year, as we explored more areas of our vast B.C. coast, met new friends and we now have more stories to tell. We went to our favorite locations such as: Welcome Harbour, Qlawdzeet, Melville Is. No. 42 and Oona River. We started off the May long weekend with high winds and losing anchor hold, to playing at Oval Bay, and finishing off with a progressive boat party. We sailed in all sorts of weather: rain, sun, fog and unusually windy conditions. We took part in the filming of Robert Doane and Marc Buzzell’s Green Traveller vision where we explored the islands around Browning Channel. Marty and Mae went on a fabulous nine day trip all the way around Pitt Island, with a stopover at Bishop Bay Hot Springs. We met many interesting people and lived off the seafood we caught. We also circumnavigated Porcher Island. Marty caught the biggest spring salmon, 35 lbs and the biggest halibut, 65 lbs. Jennifer caught the biggest ling cod and Mae caught the biggest Northern coho. The most amazing news was winning a nomination by Marty for “Seafaring Person of the Year” in the 2009 October issue of the international magazine “Latitudes & Attitudes.”

Best of all, we were able to be together as family and also share our DREAMS and PASSION of sailing with our friends.
